Friday, April 28, 2017 (All day)

In its ninth year, the family-friendly Living Statues event offers a unique and inspired environment to sketch, photograph, paint, or otherwise immortalize a group of talented Ballet Wichita dancers. The dancers will perform a series of short interpretive tableaux throughout the evening, coordinated by a soundtrack composed specifically for the event by KMUW’s Strange Currency host Jedd Beaudoin. Wearable props by Nanetta Bananto. More information about Nanetta is available below.

Everyone is welcome to bring their own drawing materials, cameras, etc., but drawing materials will also be available for a small donation, courtesy of Lawrence Photo Print & Frame.

Living Statues runs from 6-8PM, Final Friday April 28, followed by the closing reception for STUDY, a drawing exhibition by Fisch Haus co-founder Patrick Duegaw, from 8-10.

Nanetta Maria, Wichita artist and author, works in a variety of media. This collection, designed specifically for the 2017 Living Statues event, examines organic forms, repetition and textures, playing with free form while practicing the discipline of a seamstress. She has created ‘Unnatural Organics’ sculptural accessories: a study in contemporary synthetics, inspired by the natural world.
