Plant-paint the Commerce Street Art District GREEN

11am – 2pm, Saturday April 26 @ Botanica

11am – 2pm, Sunday April 27 @ Commerce Street Art District

FIRST…

Join us at Botanica, on Eco-Art Day, Saturday April 26, to make your own seed bombs.  This is a kids-of-all-ages event:  get your hands dirty and create the palette that you’ll use the following day to ‘paint’ a green corridor through the Commerce Street Art District.  Internationally-acclaimed earthworks artist, Kansan Stan Herd, will be on hand to talk about his practice and show examples of existing plant-paintings.  In addition, local Landscape Architect Teri Farha has offered to impart some valuable information about native and adaptive plants, as well as how to maintain them throughout the summer.  Make a seed bomb for Commerce Street, and make one for your own neighborhood–plant-painting works anywhere!

THEN…

Head down to Commerce Street on Sunday April 27, to bomb the street green!  Bring a trowel or large spoon, and a watering can;  don’t worry if you can’t find any at home–we’ll have some extras.  There should be plenty of extra seed bombs too, so wear your gardening clothes even if you didn’t make it to Botanica on Saturday!  And stay for the street party:  music by Carson Mac and The Czech Republicans, BBQ from the Rip’s Rib Shak food truck, activities at Fisch Haus, the Ffarquhar and the Non-Toxic Beauty Shop, a rain barrel display by Wichita Rain Barrels, and lots more!

Sunday night, we’ll be hosting a special talk by Stan Herd, in collaboration with Creative Rush’s School of Street Smarts, entitled GET NOTICED. Come over to Fisch Haus @ 7pm for a discussion and workshop about artist self-promotion: Stan has spent many years honing this crucial, yet complex, skill, and has generously agreed to share his experiences with the Wichita art and small business community.

We’re also excited to introduce Cow and Sow Deli, a new farm-to-table delicatessen on Douglas Ave.  They’ll be bringing a pop-up shop to Fisch Haus on Sunday, to provide snacks for the street party visitors and SoSS audience.
